q.How do i get involved?
a.First sign on as a member on this site,download the sign up sheet,choose the species of tree ,bush,companion plant,salad green,mushroom etc you want to grow in your plot.
q.What is a plot?
a.Each person is allocated 7 hexagon cells with a diameter of 2 metres each so approx 35 sq m to prepare,plant and weed.
q.What if i am unable to do strenuous digging?
a.So long as you contribute in some way e.g dead heading,setting seed,helping with website,admin etc you have fulfilled your remit,many hands make light work!Alternatively you can have someone do it all for you and give them a share of the produce grown.
q.Can i develop more than one cell?
a.Yes so long as there is space and everyone else able to has developed theirs.You can develop a plot for someone else and qualify for a share of their produce this is ideal as those unable to should be balanced by those with surplus energy.
q.Can i only pick from my cell?
a Yes.But you can swap surplus produce.Nobody wants to eat just one type of salad,its much more nutritious and practical to have a mixed salad with lots of different leaves.For example say you plant an apple tree in centre of cell with rocket round outside ,the amount of rocket in 2 metres is more than one person can eat,then when apple is fully mature will provide up to 50 lbs fruit per year in one short season!
q.I dont know much about gardening how will i know what to do and when?
a.When this site is fully functioning it will have a blog format telling you when to plant,prune,pick,your chosen plant.also a general daily blog saying whats ripe and ready.
q.What about tools will i have to bring them?
a.No each site will have a caretaker to allocate tools,give advice and monitor outputs ,ensure security whilst also maintaining the site in general.
q.Can we have honeycombs in our town?
a.Yes,spread the word when enough people are interested and a patch of land is found we can start one up and support its progress,because we are an inclusive not for profit company everyone is welcome and we have a secure asset locked structure to expand with.Work with us as the larger we are the more we can acheive.No point you starting from scratch get involved and minimise wasted energy in set up costs and bureaucracy!
